Grand Forks International Airport (GFK) is a medium- to large-sized, multi-use airport located five miles west of Grand Forks, North Dakota. GFK serves as the region’s air transportation hub and is home to the University of North Dakota’s nationally recognized flight-training program. It has Class Delta airspace extending from the surface to 3,300 feet MSL. Seven miles west of GFK is the Grand Forks Air Force base (RDR), which has a unique restricted zone for conducting UAS operations and Class Delta airspace extending from the surface to 3,400 feet MSL. Check NOTAMs prior to departing for GFK for the latest information. The combination of complex airspace and a diverse traffic mix consisting of everything from pre-solo students through high-time air carrier pilots and their associated aircraft, can make GFK complex for pilots. This video prepares pilots for hot spots, challenges and runway configuration details at GFK. The FAA's From the Flight Deck video series uses cockpit-mounted cameras to capture runway and taxiway footage and combines them with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items.
