Reading: Acts 9 v1-19 Can God Use Someone Like Me? Paul wasn’t a super-saint. He had a dark past and had normal flaws. None of things you and I see as obstacles, are obstacles for God. The testimony of Paul’s life proves it! Your PAST Is No Obstacle for God. Three records of your past floating around: Carried In your own mind. Beware the negative narratives we build about ourselves from shame/embarrassment. Carried by people who knew you before you knew Jesus. Repentance and forgiveness are always a good idea. But it’s most likely those people don’t even remember it. Carried by Satan. He likes to pump up the negative narrative to make us give up or not try. Don’t let Satan decide your story for you. Who doesn’t carry around a record of your past? Paul was VERY grateful that Jesus had forgiven him. 1 Timothy 1 v13-15 If you have trusted Jesus as saviour, God doesn’t carry around a record of your sins and failures, either. Psalm 103 v8-12 Your Present Circumstances are No Obstacle for God. Paul: “Jesus took hold of me!” GRABBED ME! Philippians 3 v12 In the middle of persecuting the church, Jesus grabbed Paul. God will grab you you where you are at, to move you into His will. Your Personal Characteristics and Concerns are No Obstacle for God. All the things that shape you can be used for God’s glory, if you will surrender it all to Him. Romans 12 v1-2 He has shaped you and I to live as his child. He can take our broken lives and transform them for His glory. Ephesians 2 v8 God CAN Use Someone Like You. Paul’s whole life story and his teachings are a radical call to discipleship. It requires complete surrender to the supreme authority of Jesus. Galatians 2 v20, I Timothy 1 v16 God takes elements of our lives that we think are useless, and turns them into a powerful witness of His love and power to save. Remember: “God can use my life as I surrender it all to Him.”
