Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Saturday of the First Week of Lent. In today’s reverent Homily, the celebrant reflects on the "one thing necessary" during our Lenten journey: the dedication of our hearts to God’s worship through works of charity. Drawing from the ancient covenant in Deuteronomy, he explores the "sacred agreement" we make with the Lord to walk in His ways and observe His decrees with all our heart and soul. We are challenged by the Gospel to a radical standard of holiness—to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us—so that we may truly become children of our Heavenly Father. This Mass is a powerful call to be "perfect" as our Father is perfect, seeking the salutary consolations that only divine teaching can provide. The Scriptures highlight the bond of the Covenant and the perfection of Charity: -The First Reading (Deuteronomy 26:16-19): Moses speaks to the people, declaring that "this day the Lord your God commands you to observe these statutes and decrees". By agreeing to be His people, Israel is promised to be raised high in praise and glory, a people sacred to the Lord. -The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 119): A commitment to spiritual integrity: "Blessed are they who hope in the Lord". -The Holy Gospel (Matthew 5:43-48): Jesus transforms the traditional law of love, commandingly telling His disciples: "Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you". He reminds us that the Father makes His sun rise on the bad and the good alike, calling us to a universal love that reflects His own divine perfection. May the divine mystery we celebrate today refresh us and grant us the unceasing favor of the Lord as we continue our Lenten pilgrimage.
