On 17 December 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, 78 American soldiers were brutally murdered close to the Malmedy cross roads by the SS. This shocking WWII war crime left a permanent mark on history and led to the massacre of German prisoners by the Americans at Chenogne near Bastogne.
