So yeah, I'm quite upset that I missed this entry from the beginning, since the confirmation seems to come from all the way back in 2016. As it turns out, it was always intentional for Link to be an androgynous character, all the way back in Ocarina of Time. It's fitting, since in many games, Link doesn't actually use his own name by default, with the choice of name being given to the player, so, unlike Pokémon, they decided to make this player avatar be gender-fluid, and it seems fitting, as many trans and non-binary people seem to identify with him for it (though they would end up making Link the only name in some titles). I'm disappointed in myself for not finding this out earlier, because I always liked Link for being this "less manly" protagonist, and learning that gender-fluidity is an intentional core aspect of his design is very special, especially considering how iconic to gaming he is. Remember: according to the producer of the Zelda franchise, it's okay for you to see link with either or no gender, or as leaning from one gender to another, this is canon and working as intended.
