After Being Detained By ICE For 12 Days, Canadian Actress Jasmine Mooney Speaks Out

Canadian actress Jasmine Mooney, who starred in “American Pie Presents: The Book of Love,” is speaking out after she was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for nearly two weeks while trying to renew her work visa. The entrepreneur was detained by immigration officials after she attempted to cross the U.S.-Mexico border on March 3 and reapply for the visa, which she reportedly previously obtained successfully. After being held for 12 days, Mooney was released and returned to Vancouver on March 15 where she addressed the media about her experience. “I am still to be honest am really processing everything. I haven’t slept in a while and haven’t eaten proper food in a while, so I’m just really going through the motions," she said, before revealing the conditions of the detention centers. “I do not wish it upon anyone, to be honest. No one deserves to go through – what I witnessed,” she said, also claiming that she had been transported three times. When asked if she believes President Trump’s border policies led to her detainment, she replied that she was unsure. “I really have no idea. I don’t want to point fingers at anything. I really – I don’t know. But, obviously, people can speculate what they want.” Multiple outlets confirmed Mooney’s detainment with an ICE spokesperson who noted that she was detained “for not having legal documentation" to be in the United States, adding that she was “processed in accordance" with Trump's "Securing Our Borders" executive order.
