I like to execute vertical descents as part of my training, or simply to slow down and smell the roses. The American Ranger AR-1 gyroplane is a very stable platform with fantastic rudder authority when airspeed is close to zero. Mastering the vertical descent is important to all gyro pilots, since that maneuver is very useful in many situations, including emergency landing into tight spaces.
