Few warships in history have suffered as much devastation as the Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Franklin (CV-13). Known as "Big Ben," she was operating just 50 miles off the coast of Japan when a sudden and brutal Japanese air attack left her engulfed in flames and on the verge of sinking. Yet, through sheer determination and bravery, her crew battled against overwhelming odds to keep her afloat, demonstrating extraordinary heroism in the face of near-certain destruction. Named in honor of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, the Franklin would go down in history as one of the most resilient ships to ever serve in the United States Navy.
