Hello Guys. This video is not my usual educational video. It is about my knee issue that I am dealing with. The full story is here. GoFundMe : https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-lena-... PayPal : [email protected] I damaged my knee in a skiing accident in February of 2019. At first it seemed that my ACL was the only thing affected, and I had an intense surgery to re-attach it. The surgery was a success and the replacement ACL is as healthy as my original one. But after a year, I still had pain in my knee and wasn't able to dance at the level that I should have been able to. Doctors in Ukraine told me that I had also damaged my knee to the 3rd degree and my pain is a result of that. As treatment, I had STEM cells injections, and Hyaluronic injections. These were treatments and although they helped somewhat, they still did not abate the pain 100% and my cartilage would not recover from these treatments. The treatments did allow me to teach, but after lessons my knee would be in intense pain and I did everything I could to mitigate it. Dancing at my previous level was out of the question. My doctors in Ukraine told me that that is all they could do. I then went to US doctors, and after diagnostic surgery, they discovered that the cartilage behind my kneecap was completely worn off. But this was not the only thing. My skiing accident affected the angle of my knee and was forcing it to wear away at the now non-existent cartilage. This June, is my first step in the glimmering hope of a full recovery. Under the guidance of my doctor, I am to undergo three surgeries at once. First, is the MACI procedure that with the help of a laboratory in Cambridge, a sample of my cartilage is to be grown and inserted into my knee. Second is Tibial Tubercal Osteonomy, which will cut and realign the bones of my leg. Lastly, is lateral retinacular lengthening which will adjust the trajectory of my kneecap. I thought that my ACL surgery was intense, but these procedures blow that out of the water. The rehab period will be much more lengthy than from my ACL surgery. However, this is all for an 80% chance at a full recovery of my organic knee. And that, I think is worth it. At first, I will only move my leg with the help of a CPM machine and walk only with the help of crutches. In 6 weeks after the surgery, I will start to re-learn how to walk. After that, it'll be steady progress to full-on dancing! I would be genuinely thankful for everyone's help with this surgery. Thank you for taking your time to read this, and have a wonderful day!
