As a foreigner seeing this for the first time, I didn’t want to just watch it as a tourist — I wanted to understand what it really means. So I spoke directly with locals, a chai seller, and another traveler to hear their perspectives on the ritual, faith, and spirituality in Varanasi. In this video, you’ll hear locals explain the meaning of the ceremony, why it’s important to them, and what someone visiting India for the first time should take away from it.
