Housing time provides an ideal opportunity for parasite control in both dairy and beef cattle. Gut worms, lungworm and fluke infections, which may have been acquired during the grazing season, need to be assessed and appropriate control measures taken. In addition, external parasites, which may have been lying dormant when the cattle have been outside, will start to multiply and thrive over winter as coats get longer and temperature and hours of sunlight decline. Apart from potentially causing clinical disease, many of these infections, either singly or in combination, can have negative effects on feed intake, growth rates and fertility. Deciding on which parasites to target, treatment options and timing of treatment all require careful planning and accurate delivery. Join AHDB division’s Dairy and Beef & Lamb for this webinar with Andy Forbes, independent consultant in ruminant parasitology, honorary Professor at Glasgow University and member of the Control of Worms Sustainably (COWS) stakeholder group to learn more about the options for parasite control at housing time.
