“Corrente Italiana” by Juan Cabanilles – Nathan Laube, organ

Nathan Laube, Assistant Professor of Music at the Eastman School of Music, performs Juan Bautista José Cabanilles’ “ Corrente Italiana.” Cabanilles (1644-1712) was organist at Spain’s Valencia Cathedral and has been called “the Spanish Bach” and the greatest composer of the Spanish Baroque. Each movement is inspired by texts from the 94th Psalm. The performance of Cabanilles’ “Corrente Italiana” was recorded live at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic Regional Convention of the American Guild of Organists in Pittsburgh at St. Paul Roman Catholic Cathedral. Nathan Laube played the cathedral’s 97-rank mechanical action organ installed by Rudolf von Beckerath in 1962.
