INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 7:00 am 11-5-25 LOCATION: S.Hooper Ave and Firestone Blvd AREA/CITY: Florence- Firestone (Unincorporated LA County) DETAILS: New Info: Squatters have taken over half of the street sidewalks on both the North and South sides of Firestone Blvd, between S. Central Ave and S. Hooper Ave., leaving people on their way to the market or school to walk on the street side to get around the mess and huge pit bull dogs. ADDED VIDEO INFO: Most of the encampment has been cleared, but they are only moving vehicles onto the city streets. Property and a large amount of bicycles and other property now block sidewalks next to a supermarket across the street, and also right next to the encampment where kids have to walk through to go to school and back home. Tried to get out and shoot with my camera, but the people who were kicked out were not happy about that, and with the police gone for now, I opted to shoot with my cell phone while driving by. The owner of the lot, with the help of a large team of LA County Sheriff’s deputies, cleared out the homeless encampment from the private property. The homeless encampment was across the street from an Elementary School and not far from a Middle School. The LA County Sheriff’s Department, after kicking everyone from the property, told everyone that if they came back into the property, they would be arrested. A large number of dogs were in the property, with many litters of pitbull dogs that they were breeding in the property to be sold. Many vehicles that were on the property were being stripped for parts. Bicycles, scrap metal, and copper filled the lot along with trash. The encampment was stealing electricity from nearby light poles and water from fire hydrants and from water spickets on the property next door that is currently being renovated. Not clear what the owner will do with the property that was left behind, but one RV was seen being pulled out the lot and placed across the street next to a supermarket. Kids walk by this lot on their way to school sometimes by themselves. Residents that passed by were more than happy to see the lot cleared out. I tried to get an interview with one and she was worried if she did they would attack her if they saw her on the street. At this time, everyone at the encampment took what they could from the property and is just sitting out on the sidewalk or the alley, not knowing where to go. A woman yelled out at the owner, “We’ll be back when you leave”. The Deputies left the scene, and the owner closed the gate. Cleaning crews will take on the task of cleaning up all the trash and moving the vehicles left behind. HANDLING AGENCIES: LASD Century Station SOT(s): N/A Shot By: Alex P. Injured?
