Is Bigger Really Better? We Tested An L5P Duramax Engine Oil Cooler Upgrade To Find Out!

It's been a minute since our last YouTube, the past two years have been challenging to say the least. So, This video tests the efficiency of the engine oil cooler used on the 2020 L5P Duramax engine. This cooler is larger than ones used in previous generation Duramax engines. With more surface area it should offer better cooling which will be helpful for Duramax trucks that tow often and/or frequently. We wanted to get real world results, so we collected data while towing with the stock cooler compared to the larger one... The video shows a sizeable drop in oil temperature proving in this case that bigger is better. The older 01-07 (LB7, LLY, LBZ) engines will benefit the most as their oil cooler is a 10 plate design vs 19 plate design in the L5P.
