THCF 26 - How to Become a Budtender in Colorado - Tips from LaynieGanga Our guest today is one of the coolest women I know. She goes by LaynieGanja (check out her YouTube channel here: / @laynieganja2528 ) Laynie talks to us about how she scored her first job as a budtender in Colorado and gives us some key insider information about what you have to do before even thinking about applying for a job as well as tips for getting hired over the next guy. Topics discussed include: • Getting Badged by the MED (Marijuana Enforcement Division) Getting badged has a series of bullet points in itself which include; setting up an appointment, choosing which badge you need to apply for, filling out a 13 page form, getting your finger prints done, getting a background check, paying a fee, and waiting for everything to process and come back clear before receiving your official badge in the mail. Once the badge is received, you are officially hirable! • Once successfully badged, connecting with others in the industry, attending industry events, and actively checking Craigslist for openings is key. • You want to be more than a friendly stoner or happy, avid consumer. It is so important to actually know what you are talking about and have the knowledge base to mindfully, responsibly, and effectively discuss cannabis with others, especially when in the role of budtender where you are helping customers choose their cannabis and cannabis product that is right for them. Cannabis is a fascinating herbal resource that we learn more about every single day with science and research. Being up to date on this knowledge, as well as state laws, is of upmost importance and will help you stand out when interviewing. You are taking on a responsibility as a budtender to inform your customers and help them navigate this plant and its numerous compounds and properties. If you fail at your job, it could be a liability to your employer and to you. If you neglect operating procedures or ignore regulations, you could lose your job. Being mindful of current laws and regulations is very important. Do your cannabis 'homework' before any interviews. If you want to learn more about what we do, check us out at TheTHCFoodie.com.
