In episode 30 One Chef One Critic did something completely different. In keeping with the show’s bent toward occasionally injecting improv comedy, the producers decided to carry things to the ultimate degree with this One Chef One Critic special – a murder mystery dinner party. Karl and Steve welcomed many guests: Tom “Big Tom” Fitzgerald, Shelley Neville, T.A. Loeffler, Hon. Yvonne Jones, Ron Ellsworth, Bill Parsons, Jeremy Bonia, Andrea Maunder, Andrew Facey, Rafael Safine, and chef Andrew Synard and his crew from Red Oake catering. Paddy Daley made a cameo as the episode’s host. The entire episode was filmed at Monroe House, St. John’s, NL. The OCOC murder mystery dinner episode was entirely devised, produced, and directed by Krissy Holmes. It was filmed in its entirety in one evening. Background: In 2008 Karl Wells was asked to create a show for Rogers TV that he would co-produce and host. With the creative help of his Rogers TV co-producer, Krissy Holmes, they developed One Chef One Critic. Karl was the "critic" and Steve Watson was selected to be the "chef." It ran for 10 consecutive seasons and became one of Rogers TV's all-time popular shows. The show had three main goals: to feature an interesting community guest, to make an interesting meal, and to profile an interesting local restaurant or chef.
