Recorded: October 29, 2021 - Princeton NJ Event: Sexuality, Integrity, and the University 2021 TALK Equality without Uniformity: We Can Do Better than Unisex Feminism is a response to a real injustice—the world around us is often designed with men as the default. To find their place, women have to consider whether they can fit themselves into this uncomfortable standard, by altering their fertility, their marriage plans, their self-presentation to fit the male-as-generic model. Or they can advocate to expand the standard, to make room for women-as-women. It isn't enough to try to make a larger, sexless generic model of what it means to be human. Both men and women deserve a broader range of niches, rather than a unisex default that fits everyone poorly. BIO Leah Libresco Sargeant has worked as a policy analyst, a data journalist, and a Bayesian probability instructor at an organization teaching “defensive driving for your brain.” Her writing has appeared in The Washington Post, First Things, The Weekly Standard, The American Interest, The American Conservative, America and other outlets. She has spoken across the United States, as well as Australia, Ireland, and Poland. She is the author of Arriving at Amen (on her conversion) and Building the Benedict Option (on creating Christian community).
