Supreme Court Stays Shocking Allahabad HC Order in POCSO Case | News9 | LIVE

In a significant intervention, the Supreme Court of India has stayed the Allahabad High Court’s controversial ruling, which stated that grabbing a minor girl’s breasts and breaking her pyjama string did not amount to an attempt to rape. Taking suo motu cognizance, a bench of Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih reacted strongly to the ruling after it was flagged by ‘We the Women of India’, calling it “shocking,” “insensitive,” and “inhuman.” The Allahabad HC had downgraded charges against two accused, Pawan and Akash, who were initially charged under Section 376 IPC (rape) and Section 18 of the POCSO Act.
