The Edison Long-Playing Diamond Disc was the first true long-playing format to be made widely available to the public. With a groove density of 450 tracks per inch, a 10" record like the one shown could cold up to 12 minutes on each side - at 80rpm. However, it was short-lived at eventually a commercial failure, due to its many technical shortcomings. A diamond disc machine required a special upgrade kit to modify the gearing and the use of a special reproducer with an extremely fine diamond. Just the rejection for these diamonds were incredibly high. Even a smaller rumble by the mainspring could make the diamond jump and by that permanently damage the fine groove. Furthermore, the records were simply acoustic duplucated (horn-to-horn) from regularly available diamond discs. Due to the dubbing process, clarity were noticeably reduced. By 1927 the format was discontinued. 10006-R: 0:00 Kaplan’s Melodists: Hello Bluebird - Fox Trot [EDD 51899-L], rec. 12/10/1926 4:00 Hotel Commodore Dance Orchestra: In a Little Spanish Town - Waltz [EDD 51899-R], rec. 12/02/1926 8:11 Ross Gorman and His Orchestra: The Sphinx - Oriental Fox Trot [EDD 51905-R], rec. 12/16/1926 Gear: Technics SL-1210M3D w/ KAB 78rpm mod AudioTechnica AT-3600L (spherical LP stylus) Puffin Phono DSP Make this video ad-free with uBlock Origin, NewPipe, or Grayjay for Android uBlock Origin: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock#ubl...
