Pediatric Facial Trauma and Reconstruction After a Dog Bite | Clara’s Story

When 3-months old Clara was bitten by the family dog, she experienced significant trauma to her skull, face, scalp and ear. Doctors in Clara’s home country of Panama advised her parents that the best chance for treatment and recovery was in the U.S. The family traveled to Johns Hopkins and met with pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Rick Redett. Dr. Redett has performed a number of reconstructive procedures on Clara during the last 10 years, including using skin grafts and tissue expanders, and will continue to do so as she grows.
