Israeli population tops eight million: Holy Land's population up 1.8% over past 12 months

As Israel marks its 65th Independence Day, the country's Central Bureau of Statistics has released a new census showing that the population of the Jewish State has grown by 1.8% over the past year to stand at a little over 8 million people. Three-quarters of that number are Jewish -- approximately 6 million people. Israeli-Arabs meanwhile account for 20% of the population and there are 318,000 members of other religions, accounting for some 4% of the populace.
