In today’s video, I’m sharing a cozy day at my desk and how I use my planner throughout my workday as a PhD student. Lately, I’ve been trying to slow down and be more intentional with my routines, and planning on paper has been such a big part of that. When I used digital tools like Notion or to-do apps, I found myself getting more distracted and less mindful. But with my paper planner, I actually take the time to reflect, plan, and feel more grounded in my day. As a scientist, I also love when there’s research to back up these habits! One study that I found really interesting is: 🪶 “The Effects of Bedtime Writing on Difficulty Falling Asleep: A Polysomnographic Study Comparing To-Do Lists and Completed Activity Lists” (Scullin et al., 2018). It showed that writing specific to-do lists before bed can actually help people fall asleep faster, compared to journaling about what they’ve already done.
