The Coal Mine of Petrila city The mine has a long and interesting history, it's been here for 161 years. It is the oldest and deepest mine that our country has, its inmost point goes 1000 meters under. Sadly, the time was tough with it, 4 major accidents that took the life of 45 miners and hurt other 29 happened here. The last one in 2008 and with it, the production of the mine started declining until 2015 when it stopped. In 2014, with the help of StartUp Petrila, the old pump station becomes the first building that is open for the general public. The following year the destruction of the mine is stopped with the help of local and regional organizations and the Town Hall Petrila. That same year, during "The Days of Industrial Patrimony" event, the first sign that indicates the Mine as a historical memorial was attached. 2016 is the year the Mine is listed as a Group A historical monument. Furthermore, in November, the documentary "Planeta Petrila" is launched at the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam - IDFA. !!! This is an online event !!!
