Malda Judicial Officers Gherao: 7 Officials Trapped, Freed After Midnight Delay | India Today News

Seven judicial officers, including three women, were gheraoed by anti-social elements at a BDO office in Malda district, according to BJP sources. The Chief Justice of Kolkata High Court received information about the incident in the morning. Despite the Registrar General of the High Court immediately informing state administration and requesting immediate action at 8.30 pm, no help was extended until after midnight. The Registrar General contacted the Home Secretary and DGP, who reached the Chief Justice's residence at 12 midnight. The judicial officers were finally released post midnight. When the officials were leaving, stones were allegedly pelted at their vehicles and they were attacked with sticks and bricks, according to BJP claims. The Supreme Court has pulled up Bengal officials including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DGP and District Magistrates, stating this was a calculated attempt to derail the electoral process.
