Authenticity Online Is Impossible

For years I avoided all types of social media — but recently, I've started to share my thoughts, ideas, and viewpoints as a way to find like minded people who enjoy thinking about some of the same questions I do. It's made me grapple with this question of "authenticity" and how possible it actually is. The conclusion I reached is it's impossible — but that doesn't mean we should give up or not try. I think it means we should instead think about questions of sincerity and usefulness. In this video, I explore my current thinking about authenticity, sincerity, and creating connection in an online environment which feels increasingly fractured.
