Continuing Medical Education (CME) Using Adaptive Learning: Case Study

The Pro-ficiency Adaptive Learning platform provides a consequence-free training environment for investigators, site staff, clinical research associates (CRAs), and monitors to practice critical aspects of the protocol prior to study initiation. In 2023, we developed a simulation environment in which clinicians were to inject autologous stem cells into the patient's kidney cortex. In approximately 30% of injections, the simulation showed an acute idiopathic hypotensive event and the patient's blood pressure dropped dramatically. We observed what participants chose to do in this environment and how well it aligned with the provided protocol.
