A brief history of the famous Japanese writer, director, actor, and bodybuilder Yukio Mishima, who killed himself in November of 1970, fifty years ago. This video condenses his life into 20 minutes, telling you who he was behind his art, and how he came to an end. Amongst other things, the video tells about Mishima's childhood, his short film Yokuko, also known as Patriotism, Mishima's alt-right beliefs, his fans, and his love for the code of Bushido. It highlights the way he died, by Seppuku, and talks about his private army, the Tatenokai, or the shield society. If you're looking to read some more about Yukio Mishima, check out "Spring Snow", "Sun & Steel", "Runaway Horses" and "The confessions of a mask". I talk about his Mishima's quotes, his most famous ones at least, and briefly talk about his adoration by those into the alt-right today, idolizing him for the wrong reasons. Unfortunately, the video didn't turn out the way I would've liked it to, with a copyright on the music ruining much of the editing that took place. I hope the new music isn't too distracting, and that there's still some history to be learned here. Are you interested in more niche history stories? Perhaps more on Yukio Mishima, or on completely different events? Do let me know, and subscribe to the channel. Future videos that have already been put into the agenda include one about Gandhi, about the destruction of Manila, the Gwangju Uprising, Dutch involvement in Suriname and Indonesia, the current Hong Kong situation, and there is an idea to look at other writers with similarly bizarre stories.
