Kanhirangad Sree Vaidyanatha Temple, a Lord Shiva shrine, is where the deity is worshipped as Vaidya Nathan (curer of diseases). It is located at Kanhirangad around 6 kms from Thaliparambu in Kannur district, Kerala, and catches your attention with its unique architectural style. The temple annually celebrates two festivals in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (mid-December – mid-January). One is the Thiruvathira festival and the other is the Kaliyattam (Theyyam) festival. The deity is a celebrated Ayurveda physician. Bhagawathy, Ayyappan and Ganapathy are sub-deities. The deity is also commonly known as Kanhirangattappan (deity of Kanhirangad) Skin and eye diseases get cured here by offering Bhajan (singing of god-praising poems). The main offerings are Ksheeradhara (pouring of milk on the idol) and Jaladhara (pouring of water on the idol). 'Venna Nivedyam'( butter offring) is considered good for pregnancy difficulties. Shivarathri is the main festival which is in the month of Kumbam (February/March). There is Aaru Nhayar (six Sunday) ceremony here. If the 6th day of any Malayalam month is on Sunday it is called Aaru Nhayar (six Sunday) and is considered auspicious. Thiruvathira is also celebrated on a large scale. In the local region, it constitutes one of the trinity of temples held in high regard, one being the Taliparamba Shiva temple and the other the Trichambaram Sri Krishna Temple.
