The third episode of the Discover Series explores how a stoma can psychologically affect you. We hear from Lorna Haymes, the co-founder of #GetYourBellyOut, who shares the positive and negatives of her experiences with a stoma. High-performance coach, Carolyne Crowe, then suggests ways that we can learn from this honest and frank account and communicate in a more effective way so patients receive the highest quality of care. This award-winning, patient-led, Community Interest Company is providing support to a global community of people affected by Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. GetYourBellyOut provides a safe haven through an online support group, aids research, hosts social events and activity days, influences practise and policies; as well as, increased awareness and understanding of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. For more information, please visit www.GetYourBellyOut.org.uk Carolyne Crowe, BSc (Hons), BVetMed (Hons), MSc, FRCVS, Dip Coaching, Dip Stress Management and Wellbeing Carolyne is an experienced equine vet, an award-winning personal performance coach, mentor, international speaker, researcher and lecturer. Carolyne has a Master’s degree in Workplace Health and Wellbeing and continues to research this field. She is a master trainer in DISC behavioural profiling, a CPCAB trainer in Stress Management and Wellbeing, a certified trainer in Resilience, a Mental Health First Aider and an Honorary Lecturer of the University of Liverpool. She was awarded “Life Coach of the year 2015” at the International Coaching Awards, became an honorary Fellow of The Coaching Academy in 2016 and a founding member of the Coaching of Excellence accreditation in 2019. Carolyne was awarded her Fellowship to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2020 for her contribution to the Veterinary Profession. Loving a challenge, in 2017, Carolyne ran 10 marathons in 10 days raising over £120,000 for the Brooke charity.
