These otters are grooming themselves and appear to be marking territory. Thanks to TaiFerret for explaining, I am not well versed in otter behaviour myself. Sungei Api Api Canal, Pasir Ris Park, Singapore Mar 11, 2025 The Smooth-Coated Otter (Lutrogale perspicillata) is distributed in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, southern China, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, and on Borneo, Sumatra and Java. It is classified as "Vulnerable" under conservation status as it is threatened by habitat loss, pollution of wetlands and poaching for the illegal wildlife trade. However, in Singapore, the smooth-coated otter has made a comeback after an absence of 30 years. There are now several families roaming around the various nature parks and reservoirs of Singapore & even in the CBD. This is most likely the Pasir Ris otter family. I don't follow otters in general, but there are many local otter enthusiasts who keep track of the various families, their wherabouts and their family dynamics.
