Commissioned by the Detroit International Jazz Festival to celebrate its 30th anniversary, Detroit is a six-part suite that evokes both the edge and the ambition of this blue collar city. Detroit premiered at the Festival on Geralds 91st birthday at which time he was honored with The Spirit Of Detroit Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to the city.
