V-P Jagdeep Dhankhar Wades Into Collegium Debate, Recalls NJAC Repeal | Breaking News | Mirror Now

Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who shared the dais with Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, stated on Friday that it was "never too late to reflect" in a subtle reference to the Supreme Court's 2015 ruling invalidating the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act, 2014, which sought to restore the Collegium system of appointments in the higher courts. Speaking to a crowd at the 8th Dr. L. M. Singhvi Memorial Lecture in New Delhi, Dhankhar emphasised the "primacy of the will of the people" and noted that "that power was undone" and "the world does not know of any similar occurrence." After criticising the Collegium method of judicial nominations as "opaque" and "foreign," Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju made his comments.
