Bastl made a new platform for Eurorack and it’s called Citadel. This basically brings FX Wizard and Wave Bard from the tiny desktop platform of Kastl 2 and gives it some full-sized jacks and a whole lot more utility. The extra control that I get in modular over the desktop world is amazing. I always thought both FX Wizard and Wave Bard sounded great but because all my gear is pretty much modular, I didn’t use them too much aside for having an ultra-portable setup to toss into a bag. Citadel allows me to make use of all the fun but in a format that works and has so many more benefits of modulation. Going with a module that’s 16hp, is no small thing these days but I think given that it’s stereo, the layout is great and it has so much i/o, I can’t see it being any smaller. The added flair of the bigger middle knob is nice and the addition of the switches is very fun. I have to admit, I had a pretty tough task trying to make use of all I could in the time that I had. I didn’t have a shortage of time, it was just a ton to cover. So, I didn’t go to my regular depth of explaining every patch but really, this module isn’t about newer modular techniques for me, it’s about what ways that the module can present new sounds, rhythms, processing that I don’t have access to any other way. Something I didn’t cover in the video was that yes, Wave Bard is another sample player in Eurorack. And I use Rample all the time. Would it replace it? Pretty much never. They’re different things altogether. Rample is solid for a full drum kit and more whereas Wave Bard really excels at more chopped up beats where you don’t need discreet channels. FX Wizard was a whole new world to explore. I had messed with some of those types of effects while playing guitar before but having such direct control over things in this module made it way more fun. I feel like all effects should be modulatable. I feel like more guitar pedals are going that way and it’s very very fun. Thanks for popping in and watching. This video took a whole bunch of time. I’ll have some extras on Patreon once I recover from the final push of the edit. And as always, many new things in the works. Paid Promotion Bastl sent me Citadel to do a video on but no money changed hands. They don’t have advanced viewing so they get to see this video when you do. Manufacturers sending me modules to feature helps keep the content fresh as my funds don’t always allow for new purchases.
