By-Law Blitz in Midrand: Illegal Shebeens, Power Connections & Trading Shut Down

City Manager Dr Floyd Brink has once again taken a hands-on approach to enforcing City by-laws, leading an on-the-ground operation at an informal settlement along Kyalami Road in Midrand. During the inspection, officials uncovered and shut down three illegal shebeens, confiscating alcohol being sold unlawfully. The operation also revealed illegal electricity connections, posing serious safety risks to residents, as well as unlawful informal trading activities operating outside the City’s regulatory framework. These findings form part of the City’s ongoing, intelligence-led and multi-disciplinary by-law enforcement operations, carried out in collaboration with JMPD and relevant City departments. Similar operations across Johannesburg have focused on restoring law and order, addressing non-compliance, improving public safety, and ensuring communities operate within the law. Dr Brink reaffirmed the City’s commitment to consistent enforcement, making it clear that these visits will continue to ensure by-laws are upheld, services are protected, and communities are safer and better managed.
