A Variation on the usual Stack Interchange (multi-level Intersection) designed for very high traffic volumes. Here, the straight-through roads go below and above the diagonal directions. Tunnels are usually more expensive to build than bridges or overpasses which is why the tunnel is the shorter of the two straight routes. Using the 6-lane highways from the NetworkExtensions 2 mod here to give the road it's high capacity and once the roads split, all directions use 2-Lane highways to keep the capacity high for all direction choices. This Cities:Skylines asset has been added to Steam Workshop for anyone to download and use. Details: Intersection Marking tool (IMT): YES Required DLC: None Required Mods: Network Extensions 2 mod for 6-Lane, 4-Lane and 2-lane highways Recommended Mods: TM:PE for lane management Link to asset on Steam Workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile... A lot of people have been asking me about this, so I added the following section: How to get awesome traffic flow like this: [1] Start with an appropriate map. I use a custom Interchange testing map, which is based on this one: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/f... [2] To create heavy traffic volumes, I added a number of small towns to the outside edge of the map, these replace part of the highways between the outside edge highway, but you could also try the Heavy Outside Traffic mod: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/f... [3] Add the Intersection/Intersection you want to test to the center of the testing map and connect it up. This means connecting up the "inside connections" of all the edge interchanges to the center of the map. [4]when connecting the edges to the center, give the traffic time and space to merge from the outside 8 highways to the 4 highways at the center of the map. [5] Most of the traffic in a particular town just goes from one part of the town to another. I break links between one half of the town and other half. This will force the town traffic to use the intersection at the center of the map just to get to the other side of the town [6] Force all the traffic from the outside connections to connect via the center of the map, i.e. do not let the outside connections access the small towns directly. [7] Use Timed Traffic lights to allow the traffic to build up before approaching the intersection. [8] TMPE lane management, every single node must be lane managed to ensure no holdups caused by inappropriate lane switching. Where lane switching is required, only allow traffic to switch one lane at a time, and give plenty of noes in between lane switches. [9] Long approach roads that allow the traffic on the approach highways to attain full speed, then gradually slow down the traffic as it approaches the intersection, this causes the line of traffic to compress as it approaches the intersection. [10] Manually remove too-fast vehicles as well as some emergency vehicles which can ignore TMPE rules and jump lanes. With this volume of traffic, a single emergency vehicle changing lanes is enough to cause a traffic shockwave. And that's it, no magic, just a lot of work, and if you use this template, a credit or a link back here would be nice, but not required of course :-)
