This quick video does a good job highlighting the VISTA teaching methods and showing teachers and campers interacting at a summer science camp, where students were learning about space junk and teachers were learning to implement problem-based learning (PBL) in the classroom. The Virginia Initiative for Science Teaching and Achievement (VISTA) is a statewide partnership among 60+ Virginia school districts, six Virginia universities, and the Virginia Department of Education to improve science teaching and student learning for all students at all levels. Its investigators are working to to translate research-based best teaching practices into the classrooms; to conduct research to help determine what makes the most significant difference in helping teachers to help students learn, and to build a community of practice among science educators across the Commonwealth.
