Dr Lucy Dean, a Senior Lecturer in History at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and interim Head of UHI's Centre for History, delivered the third Annual Rhoda Fothergill Memorial Lecture on the fascinating, yet lost, Perth Charterhouse. In this illuminating talk, Dr Dean explores the history of Perth's Carthusian priory – the Charterhouse – a significant but lesser-known medieval monastery co-founded by James I and destroyed during the Scottish Reformation. Drawing on her extensive work on the Perth Charterhouse Project over the years, Dr Dean delves into two key research strands: the rich documentary evidence held by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) and Perth & Kinross Archives, and the groundbreaking results from the initial Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey conducted in September 2024 by AOC Archaeology. She shares new insights and discoveries about this lost site, shedding light on its foundations, its destruction, and the possibility of its buried remains. Discover how this unique site, central to Scottish history, is being uncovered through meticulous research and cutting-edge technology. Dr Dean, a passionate advocate for public history and community engagement, provides a compelling overview of the ongoing project and its significance for understanding Perth's past.
