Macht euch den Spaß und stellt euch pünktlich gegenüber den Wartenden auf. Ein herrliches Bild ist, wenn mit dem Glockenschlag alle die Fotos vor sich halten: hunderte verkrampfte Fotografen. Nach einem kurzen Moment ist dann alles vorbei und alle verteilen sich schnell wieder. Ein stündlich wiederholendes Spektakel. Sehenswert, obwohl die Uhr nicht viel zeigt. Für Begeisterung sind wir einfach ein paar Jahrhunderte zu spät dran. 1410 wären wir ausgerastet vor Begeisterung. ____________________ Town Hall and Astronomical Clock (Orloj) are actually overrun and boring old, but nevertheless worth seeing and indeed because of the many tourists with their cameras. Take the fun and stand up on time against the waiting souvenir hunters. A funny situation is when ringing the bells everybody holds all the photo cameras in front of their faces: hundreds of cramped photographers. After a brief moment everything is over and all are quickly distributed again towards the souvenir shops. An hourly repeating spectacle. Although the clock does not show much. For enthusiasm of an simple clock, we are simply a couple of centuries too late. In 1410 we would be rescued with enthusiasm. _____________________ The Orloj is mounted on the southern wall of Old Town Hall in the Old Town Square. The clock mechanism itself has three main components: the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky and displaying various astronomical details; "The Walk of the Apostles", a clockwork hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures—notably a figure of Death (represented by a skeleton) striking the time; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months. According to local legend, the city will suffer if the clock is neglected and its good operation is placed in jeopardy; a ghost, mounted on the clock, was supposed to nod its head in confirmation.
