South African Railways 25NC Kimberley to Bloemfontein

Here is a old clip I took while working a 2600ton goods from Kimberley to Bloemfontein. The loco we are working is 25NC no 3449 while 3488 is helping behind. The video is not of good quality but shows what it was like working on steam in the good old days. While both locomotives were working flat out to lift this heavy train up the bank towards Kloofiend the driver and I discovered a few bits of ballast being thrown from along the righthand side of the locomotive. This was caused by a snapped lubricator rod which was now hanging down and hitting the trackbed. To repair the lubricator for the rest of the journey a long piece of fence wire was attached to the lubricator arm and worked by the driver from just outside his cab window. This is shown near the end of the clip.
