Mysore Dasara Illumination 2025 This is the 416th Dasara celebrated in Mysore. The festival began in the 14th century. The world-famous Mysore Dasara is celebrated from September 22, 2025 to October 2, 2025. Mysore Dasara 2025 will be held for 11 days and will be inaugurated on Sept 22 between 10.10 am and 10.40 am at the Chamundi hills. International Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq will inaugurate the Dasara on September 22 atop of the Chamundi hills. In the evening, cultural programmes will be inaugurated in front of the majestic Mysuru palace by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at 5 PM. The Mysore Dasara, or the Navarathri, is a 10-day festival in September or October. However, this year it will be celebrated for 11 days. Mysore Dasara is the “Nadahabba” or the State-Festival of the State of Karnataka, called “Navaratri”. Navaratri in Mysore is Nine-Nights and a 10th day festival celebrated with utmost spectacle and joy. The Dasara festivities have a rich history of more than 400 years. During this festival, the usually calm and peaceful city transforms into a hub of celebrations and activities. (Another major attraction of the 2025 Dasara will be the Drone show. Various formations will be created using drones. On Sept 28 and 29, trials will be held at the torchlight parade ground. The unique feature will be sound and lightning along with the Drone show. Every year, thousands of tourists arrive in the city to see the Dasara elephants. This year, the elephant to carry the Mysore Ambari or the Howdah will be Abhimanyu. The Mysore Palace is one of the most glorious and lauded pieces of architecture in India. During Dasara, the palace is illuminated from 07:00 PM to 09:00 PM on the first eight days (22nd Sep to 02nd Oct 2025) and from 07:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Vijayadashami Day (02nd October 2025) LED Lights & Display Models: 76 unique light-display models, many animated/static decorations inspired by mythological themes, famous monuments, and social messages. Replacing older metal halide with LED for better energy efficiency. Electricity Consumption: Approx 2.5 lakh units will be used for illumination during the 21-day lighting period. Palace Bulb Replacement: About 18,000 damaged incandescent bulbs replaced; the palace, gates, temple premises prepared; also painting and wiring work done. Beautification & Civil Works: The City Corporation has spent ~ ₹9.5 crore to repair footpaths, drains, fences, balustrades, improve sidewalks along procession routes, illuminate heritage structures, and more.
