Hi guys! In this video I will be sharing with you the steps to solder a wire joint together. We will go over these steps 1. How to prepare your workstation for a save and practical solder work space. 2. How to get your joint ready for soldering 3. How to make your solder flow! The fun part! Next week - I will share with you how to clean up your ring, sand & polish! 1st Step - Prepare you station! Okay lets get your station ready to solder 1. Make sure you are soldering in an area that has some air flow, wear your safety googles, and a mask! Safety is key - you don't want to breath in all the chemicals that are burning. 2. Set up your station - you will need Solder Block Solder Pic & tweezers Quench Bowl ( Just a bowl of water ) Pickle pot on and ready to go! Handy Flux & Paint Brush Silver Easy Solder Your Ring that you will be soldering 3. Time to prepare your ring! 2nd Step - Prepare your ring! 1. Take your wire and bend it into a U shape 2. Use your pliers and pull both ends of the wire to touch so they are as close and flush as possible NOTE: It is so important to have as flush and seamless of a joint as possible - this will make the clean up process so easy (and save you so much time) and also helps the solder flow effortlessly. 3. Flux your piece - you need to flux your whole piece - flux is what will flow the solder - simply: NO FLUX - NO FLOWINNNN 4. Place a piece of solder under your joint - make sure the solder is equally touching both ends of the joint evenly. 3rd Step - TIME TO SOLDER Okay here are some things to note about soldering- 1. You want to fire your piece evenly - I do this by going clock wise with my torch over and around the top of the ring. 2. You will notice your piece do this (THIS IS SO IMPORTANT) It will look gunky and dirty as you start to fire the flux - this is the flux burning off Then you will notice the piece look shiny and almost glossy this means your piece is almost hot enough to melt the solder Once this happens - focus the heat on the joint Them Boom - the solder will flow NOTE: You will know the solder flows when the solder turns super shiny and glossy. Sometimes is like hops into the joint! It is soooo satisfying. Soldering is all about seeing the process and understanding what is happening to your piece. It took me lots of practice to get it down - but I really am trying to simplify it down for you all so it makes sense. Let me know below if you have any questions and I am enjoying so much teaching you all these skills! Next week I will be back with Part.3 - how to clean and polish your pieces! This is very important for your process! Have a great week!
