By removing an old, overgrown hedge to open up space for our trailer, we could now see the bedroom windows of the house next door from our kitchen and dining room windows. Our privacy spoiled, we decided to install a 7.5' high and 50' long solid, cedar privacy fence. Background: We needed a space to park our 5' x 8' enclosed trailer, and the perfect location was on the west side of our driveway next to the garage. But there was a large, old Juniper hedge filling the space and encroaching the driveway by several feet. We pruned the branches off the first hedge tree to free up some space, but it wasn't enough. Our only option was to completely remove a 30' section of the hedge - five evergreen trees! Getting this done was a major project, especially cutting the stumps down below the ground level. Over the next several months, we got the area cleared with enough space for our trailer and for our Nissan pickup! However, we could now see the house next door through their ugly chain link fence. By happenstance, our neighbor, who was leasing the house decided to move. I had seen these cedar fence panels leaning against the house over the last year. So, I asked him if he was interested in selling them. He agreed to sell them to me at half price! Thus began this eight-week project. I hope that you learn something from my first experience at installing a privacy fence, and even if you don't, I hope that you enjoy watching this documentary DIY video. Randall
