On January 19 at 6:00 AM in Honolulu, 135 runners stood on the start line of one of the toughest ultramarathons on the planet: the HURT 100. From the first climb, the course began to take its toll. What followed was a relentless test of endurance—steep ascents, punishing technical descents, tropical heat, and slick, unforgiving trails. For most of the field, the race would unfold far beyond daylight, with nearly 11 hours spent running through the dark rainforest, guided only by headlamps and determination. As the front-runners pushed deeper into the night, the race shifted. Fatigue set in. The field spread out. And for many, the real battle began—not against other runners, but against isolation, exhaustion, and the clock. This year’s race delivered a historic performance. Tyler Juza shattered the HURT 100 course record, finishing in 19:22:44 and redefining what was thought possible on this brutal course. But beyond the record-breaking run, countless personal wars were fought on the trails—each runner chasing forward momentum, each step earned. With an unforgiving 36-hour cutoff, the HURT 100 doesn’t offer mercy. It demands resilience, patience, and resolve. For those who reached the finish, the reward wasn’t just a time—it was survival. Congratulation to all the runners. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers. Runners can download there images here.
