Way back in maybe 1999 (?) I upgraded my 1964 Chevy Impala from the stock front drum brakes to front disc brakes. My brakes have been terrible ever since. Over the years, I tried changing the calipers, master cylinder, proportioning valve, and even brake hoses. None of these things seemed to help make my brakes work well. The pedal was always way too low and the brakes didn't feel like they worked well. In probably 2017 I swapped my master cylinder from whatever size it was at the time (maybe 7/8" bore?) to one with a bore that was 1.125 in diameter. Instantly the brakes were "better" but terrible for different reasons. Now the brake pedal didn't move much at all, and the rear brakes were locking up if I stepped on the brakes more than a little bit. 2020 arrived and I decided that I was going to finally make the disc brakes work properly on my Impala. So - I started with lots of research. I found that a 1972 Chevy C10 Truck with a 1.125 master cylinder bore, uses front calipers with 3" bore pistons, and 1" bore rear wheel cylinders. Since my 64 Impala had 1" bore rear wheel cylinders and a 1.125" bore master cylinder, I knew that adding 3" bore front calipers should essentially give me the same brake setup as a Full size Chevy truck, which must work. I then set out to find front calipers with 3" pistons inside them (link below). Luckily CPP (Classic Performance Products) had what I needed (link below).
