This is a video of highlights from various May games from the 1970 Red Sox season, broadcast on WHDH TV in Boston, with Ken Coleman and Ned Martin on play by play and Johnny Pesky on analysis. (In some of these games, because that trio refused to cross a picket line of the station's electrical workers, Leo Egan, who had called Sox games on WBZ and WHDH radio, briefly returned to the booth.) These highlights have been out there on Major League Baseball channels, and God bless whomever saved them, but I have found that in those collections the games, and the individual plays, don't often appear in chronological order, there is tons of duplication, and at times the audio and video are out of sync. This was my attempt to grab most of the games that are out there from 1970 and make them much easier to watch (thank you, Baseball Reference!), a true labor of love. Here are the May 1970 various games: Date Opponent Seen in video Length of highlights May 9 at Athletics 00:00-07:06 7 min. 7 sec. May 19 Tigers 07:11-12:02 4 min. 51 sec. May 22 at Orioles 12:07-19:40 7 min. 33 sec. (no audio) May 23 at Orioles 19:45-27:41 7 min. 57 sec. May 24 at Orioles 27:46-36:51 9 min. 5 sec. (G1, DH) May 25 Senators 36:55-50:53 13 min. 58 sec. May 30 White Sox 50:59-1:04.56 14 min. 5 sec. May 31 White Sox 1:05:08-1:15:00 9 min. 49 sec. A wild 22-13 loss to the White Sox May 31 at Fenway Park is one of the more interesting games of this batch, but there are plenty of winning plays in all the games by Carl Yastrzemski, Rico Petrocelli, Reggie Smith, George Scott, Mike Andrews, Sonny Siebert, and the other Sox of that fondly recalled era. I get the feeling there are more games from this time period to be had. So if you've got any, let me know, I'd love to add them so everybody can see them. 1970 Red Sox stats in comments.
