In this video, I had a training session with @MrKennethZeiffert and we tried two frictionless anti-spin rubbers from Dr. Neubauer: ABS 3 (1.5 mm) and ABS 2 EVO (2.1 mm). I appreciate Dr. Neubauer and Carsten for providing these rubbers for the test. I should mention that Kenneth is also playing with ABS 2 himself. I tried to perform different strokes during this test but, as you’ll notice, the focus is on blocking. I tried ABS 3 first and then ABS 2 EVO, which starts at 3:10 of the video. My general feeling is that both rubbers play very consistent and safe. Comparing with DMS Scandal, which I’ve been playing with recently, I can say the reversal level is slightly higher for both ABS 3 and ABS 2 EVO. The feeling of ABS 3 is very similar to the Scandal, while ABS 2 EVO feels softer and plays safer than other two. I tried both rubbers on 5-ply, all-wood, blades with 5.5 mm thickness. Blocking: Both rubbers are significantly more consistent and safer than any DMS anti-spin that I’ve tried. Their reversal level is very similar to each other, but in comparison with DMS rubbers, they lie between Scandal and Störkraft. Considering the consistency and enough effect to win points, I would personally choose these rubbers. Probably due to thicker sponge, ABS 2 EVO was even more consistent than ABS 3 to block with. Also, when hitting the ball, ABS 3 gave me a similar feeling to that of DMS rubbers because of hard top sheet. However, ABS 2 EVO felt significantly softer, like a LP with sponge, which I really enjoyed it. Overall, I’d say ABS 3 does slightly better job than ABS 2 EVO in blocking as it has a more flate trajectory and more reversal. Pushing back spin: Here, my feeling is that ABS 2 EVO did a better job, as it let me to push the ball more aggressively. Again, it might be due to the thicker sponge and the slower speed. You can see the reaction of my training partner to pushing with ABS 2 EVO at 5:20. It also felt better than ABS 3 to attack with a backhand stroke on a backspin ball. I’m looking forward to trying ABS 3 in 2.0 mm to compare with ABS 2 EVO. Chopping: I think they both did a good job in chopping the no spin balls. I the video, you can notice that when my training partner starts and I chop the first ball, his loops hit into the net. So, I would say these rubbers can help with receiving long no-spin serves. In addition, during the rally, ABS 2 EVO did an extremely good job in chopping. You can see an example of it at 4:57 of the video. Again, I’m looking forward to testing the ABS 3 in 2.0 mm for chopping. In the next videos, I will play with these rubbers in match situations to see how they perform.
