There are multiple types of endoscopic sinus surgery to help restore a patient's nasal, sinus, and overall health. Inflammation and swelling in the sinuses results in a condition called mucus stasis. This stagnant mucus grows bacteria that can lead to more inflammation. We try first to manage that inflammation with medical treatments, including saline rinses, topical nasal steroids, antibiotics, oral steroids, and other therapies effective for allergies. If those therapies fail it's probably time to discuss endoscopic sinus surgery to restore ventilation and drainage of the sinuses.
