This video showing you how to stretch and flatten a sumi-e or Chinese painting with silicone release paper. The thin Japanese rice paper I used for this plein air painting is very fragile and it may falling apart with traditional wet-mounting, it is very easy to mount with silicone dry-mounting paper as you can see in this video. In the end of the demo, I also addressed to an earlier question from a viewer regarding to the permanency of silicone mounting paper and demonstrated how easy it is to peer off the mounting paper. In my opinion, silicone paper is one of the most important technological development in contemporary Asian art that will not only keep this thousands year old art form alive in Japan, Korea and China but also help spread it into other countries. Before people refused to paint on rice paper because they do not know how to get the wrinkles out and traditional wet-mounting process is to difficult and takes too much time. Now you can mount a painting in a few minutes and put it in a frame right way. I have never go back to wet-mounting since I have found silicone paper.
