If you are a gardener that loves to grow tender plants, 'winter' might be a bit of a swearword. The inevitable frosts of colder season often brings with it lots of potential damage to your plants. Cold weather conditions can damage plants in several ways: Freezing the soil in a plant pot to prevent any uptake of water, causing the same effect as drought. -Freezing the water in plant cells causing them to rupture and die. Freezing growing tips which are tender and young plant material that is more susceptible to cold. It can be very disheartening to look out on your garden after a period of severely cold weather, escpecially after a hard frost. In this video I talk about why cold damage to your plants shouldn't discourage you from enjoying gardening. It's can be heartbreaking to look out on plants that you have spent money on and time caring for succumb to cold frosty weather. The same value as their cost can be found in the lessons learnt about which plants work best in your garden in winter. Remember, not all plants are perennial and certainly not all plants are hardy perennials. Many of the plants we buy in garden centres and nurseries in the warm summer months are sold as annuals because they do not have the natural abilities to survive winters in your local climate. In my tropical and exotic style garden I have spent years searching for plants that maintain an exotic vibe all year round. Even when I think I figured it out the seasons will surprise me and I learn a whole new set of lessons. As a gardener I need to experience these hardships to build on my wealth of knowledge. Gardeners that have been growing in one spot for many years become incredibly knowledgeable about the land and the plants that will thrive on it. Surprisingly in my garden many half hardy plants seem to have potential to survive cold weather. Exotic Aeonium succulents have lost all of their leaves but seem to have the ability to reshoot from the stems. Many Species of Fatsia With their exotic deeply lobed leaves are providing fantastic tropical structure in my garden in the depths of winter, even if their leaves aren't looking pristine after the cold weather. 📦JOIN THE SEED CLUB: https://www.growparadise.co.uk/grow-p... --------- BUY PLANTS & MERCH --------- 🪴 PLANT & SEED SHOP (UK): https://www.growparadise.co.uk 👕CLOTHING (Worldwide): 👕 https://growparadise.teemill.com ------- SHOPPING LINKS (Afilliate) ------ PLANT FOOD: ➡️Chicken manure pellets for leafy plants: https://amzn.to/3zTaHv8 ➡️ Tomato food for flowering plants: https://amzn.to/3QnVjhu ➡️ Houseplant food: https://amzn.to/3dt0fTP POTTING MIX: ➡️ Perlite: https://amzn.to/3QuQ1R0 ➡️ Vermiculite: https://amzn.to/3AgCirw ➡️ Horticultural grit: https://amzn.to/3Piaw2q ➡️ Orchid bark: https://amzn.to/3zTe0m2 ➡️ Coir compost block: https://amzn.to/3zJoFQk GROW LIGHTS FOR HOUSEPLANTS & SEEDLINGS: ➡️ Flexi LED light: https://amzn.to/3SJWEka ➡️ Grow Bulb: https://amzn.to/3C0vjo1 PROPAGATION: ➡️Heat matt: https://amzn.to/3JWmH3J ➡️ Seed trays: https://amzn.to/3Ah0PwL ➡️ Propagator: https://amzn.to/3w0OWZc TOOLS: ➡️ Secateurs: https://amzn.to/3zOOPBm ➡️ Sharpener: https://amzn.to/3SNs6xW ➡️ Pruning Saw: https://amzn.to/3AiRiWa GREENHOUSE: ➡️ Bubble wrap: https://amzn.to/3bNfab0 ➡️ Fixing clips: https://amzn.to/3QnWPQI ➡️ Shade netting: https://amzn.to/3Pj8gI0 ➡️Electric heater: https://amzn.to/3dqSugR ----- SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS ------ 👍 FACEBOOK PAGE: / growparadiseshop 👍 INSTAGRAM: / growparadise_
