Today we remember Saint Anne Line (c. 1563–1601), one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, who gave her life for protecting Catholic priests during the persecution under Queen Elizabeth I. After converting to Catholicism with her husband, Anne faced poverty, imprisonment, and constant danger. When her husband was exiled and later died, she continued bravely — secretly sheltering priests and organising safe houses for Mass. She was eventually arrested while hosting a clandestine Mass and was executed for the “crime” of harbouring a priest. In this episode, we explore: The anti-Catholic persecutions in Elizabethan England Her fearless defence of the Eucharist Her courage as a widow Why she is honoured among the Forty Martyrs What her witness teaches us about faith under pressure Saint Anne Line shows us that love for the Mass is worth every sacrifice. Feast Day: February 27 (England) Canonised: 1970 by Pope Saint Paul VI Group: Forty Martyrs of England and Wales Liturgical Colour: Red
